QUALIFICATIONS

In 1994 the National Court Reporters Association tested its 33,000 members and established a new top rank designation.  130 were recognized as Registered Diplomate Reporters, the highest certification for court reporters.  Two freelance court reporting firms were recognized for having more RDRs than any other firm in the nation:   Isbell & Associates of Alabama and Sonntag Reporting Service of Illinois.  In a profession dominated by family-owned firms, Roy Isbell and Debra Amos Isbell became the first married couple to pass the RDR exam.  We currently have three RDRs.

In 1998, several Isbell reporters became Certified Realtime Reporters.  We presently have four.  Other staff reporters and subcontract reporters are NCRA registered or ACRA certified as well.  We strive to hire only qualified court reporters, so our reporters possess the highest credentials.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

Until recently Alabama had no  mandatory court reporter certification.   Anyone, qualified or not, could operate as a freelance court reporter in the state of Alabama.  In the last few years there has been a great influx of opportunists flocking here to set up shop. Many of these uncertified reporters will be grandfathered in and allowed to continue practicing under the new Alabama law.   But the speed and accuracy of our higher-skilled reporters keeps our prices lower.  Our reporters have invested much time and effort in developing the skills to enable us to produce verbatim transcripts in the fastest possible time.

At Isbell and Associates we have the fastest and most competent reporters working in full compliance with the Codes of Professional Ethics of both the National Court Reporters Association and the Alabama Court Reporters Association.
